Cleveland Housing Court Promotes Staff to New Leadership Positions

Judge W. Moná Scott has promoted staff to new leadership positions within the Cleveland Housing Court effective Monday, November 30. 

Jeffrey D. Johnson was appointed to Court Administrator in October. Johnson previously served as Chief Housing Specialist. He is a former Councilman and State Senator who has been a champion for important social issues such as removing dangerous lead from homes and investing in city neighborhoods. Johnson earned his juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University and is a graduate of Kent State University. 

Belinda Gest, who previously served as Judge Scott’s Personal Bailiff, has been appointed to Chief Housing Specialist overseeing the Housing Specialists Department. Prior to her tenure with The Court she served as a Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, and also worked as a Fair Housing Specialist for a non-profit organization. Prior to her career in law, she worked as a Counselor in education and residential settings. Gest earned her juris doctorate from Cleveland Marshall School of Law and is a graduate of Ohio University.

Jessica Alvis has been appointed as Judge Scott’s Personal Bailiff. She joined Cleveland Housing Court earlier this year as a Staff Attorney in the Magistrate Department. Prior to her tenure with The Court she served as a Cuyahoga County Prosecutor perusing justice for the children of Cuyahoga County for six years. Alvis also gained experience working to ensure financial support for Cuyahoga County’s children through her work with the Prosecutor’s Child Support Unit. Alvis earned her juris doctorate from Cleveland Marshall College of Law and is a graduate of John Carroll University.

“I am confident that these leaders will discharge the duties needed to exceptionally serve the residents and stakeholders of Cleveland and the Village of Bratenahl. They all exemplify extraordinary skills that continue to play key roles in the success of the Cleveland Housing Court,” said Judge Scott.
