Selective Intervention Program

Unique privileges to resolve your housing case when you complete the program requirements.

Who is Eligible

The SIP Program is designed to help homeowners who have a plan in place or, with the help of a Housing Court Specialist, can develop a plan to comply with the list of violations.

A Housing Court Specialist will contact you within a couple of weeks from the date you were in court last.  The Specialist will schedule a time to meet with you at the property and determine your eligibility for the program.  Even though you have been referred to this program, some property owners are not eligible for the program.  SIP is for first-time offenders in Housing Court.  If you have prior cases that were before Housing Court, or if you cannot develop a plan within a reasonable timeline to bring the property into compliance, the Specialist may determine you are not eligible for SIP.

How the Program Works

If your Housing Court Specialist determines you are eligible for the program, you will work out a “compliance contract,” which will give dates for the correction of each violation.  You will come to court on the date given to you by the Specialist or the date on the yellow slip you were given in court.  The Specialist will inform a court Magistrate that you are eligible to participate in the SIP program.  The Specialist will present the “compliance contract” you and the Specialist developed and you will be given a new court date, set shortly after the last violation is scheduled to be corrected.

As an approved participant in the program, you will work with your Housing Court Specialist to complete the contract in its entirety.  At the completion of the contract, the City of Cleveland will move to “nolle” or dismiss the case against you.

Fees

There is a $25.00 program fee payable to the Clerk of Courts; this fee must be paid prior to your hearing before the Magistrate.  The Clerk’s office is located on the 3rd floor and is open for payment as follows:

Monday — Friday          8 a.m.   to   11 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday      10 a.m.   to     9 p.m.

As an approved participant in the program, you will work with your Housing Court Specialist to complete the contract in its entirety. At the completion of the contract, the City of Cleveland will move to “nolle” or dismiss the case against you.
